How one computer can support more than one student

A working computer can make everyday learning possible: completing assignments at home, researching a subject, taking an online course, or preparing a job application. Sembrando un Futuro connects refurbished computers with students and young professionals in Guatemala who need that access.

Preparing a computer for its next chapter

Before a donated device reaches a recipient, we securely remove the previous owner’s data, inspect the machine, and prepare it for use. This work turns an unused computer into a practical tool for study and work.

A loan that can create another opportunity

Our computers are lent rather than given away permanently. Loans generally run for approximately six months and may be extended depending on availability and the recipient’s continuing need. When a computer returns to the program, it can be serviced and prepared for another person. One device can support more than one learner over its useful life.

Support beyond delivery

Access to a computer also means having someone to contact when a question arises. Whenever possible, our team helps with setup, troubleshooting, software questions, and updates so recipients can keep using their devices.

What recipients have told us

Students have described being able to do schoolwork at home instead of staying late at work or travelling to use another computer. Our Impact page shares recipient feedback and dated program figures, including the size of the follow-up survey behind those findings.

Ways to take part

If you have a working computer you no longer use, contact us to discuss whether it is suitable and how to arrange a donation. Financial contributions help acquire computers and get them to Guatemala. Students and young professionals who need a computer can find the Spanish-language application on our Request a Computer page.
